i was left out today.

these are the stuff that came up over the past week.
this is the lamination process of making the croissants (recipe from america's test kitchen). first was making the block of butter, which was hard enough. then, wrapping the butter in the dough and the subsequent folding... the butter just kept coming out because the dough was being stretched too thin.
made a variety of shapes. the swirled buns are a result of excess dough, and the pillow-shaped ones had chocolate wrapped inside.
because of the poor laminating process, a lot of the butter was still in thick chunks, and these leaked out completely in the oven. with all the butter soaking the bottom of the croissants, they became like fried bread; you can see the deep golden brown of the bottom of one croissant.
so, the croissants were not very fluffy but you can definitely see some layers. still, all the butter made the croissants very tasty. and look at the oozy chocolate in the chocolate croissants.

i also made some sandwich cookies, using the cream filling recipe from here.
they were like oreos, but i think the cream made the cookies soften. a bit ephemeral.

and then i made a PERFECT batch of jeffrey cookies. i think i got lucky this time. but i'm going to try to replicate and fine tune the recipe from now on.
if i'm not wrong, an electronic scale helped make the cookies to exacting specifications, and this time the dough was not actually sticking to the (light) touch.
they were really PERFECT, exactly the same as my memory of the batch made on 7th december 2007.

you know, from one ORD function to the next, the star has not deflated. i am moving quite close to my own ORD. i've also made a decision about a puzzle.
