towards EBC

above the treeline, the landscape is dominated by small shrubs and rock outcrops. i had to change my trekking plans because of altitude sickness at chhukung. after a descent to dingboche, i bought some diamox pills off an australian couple, and continued the journey towards lobuche.

more and more peaks came into view. the path became more rocky as we advanced onto the khumbu glacier's moraine wall, towards gorakshep. along the moraine wall, i saw many different coloured glacial lakes, and heard the occasional cracking of the glacial ice. i even saw an avalanche tumbling down a slope of nuptse.

from gorakshep, a tiny glimpse of everest peak is possible. and then it's a long walk to EBC. and it was rather anti-climactic because (1) the clouds came rolling in and then the drizzles came (2) the path became increasingly rocky/bouldery/difficult to walk properly (3) i had stomach ache during the final 1 hour approach of EBC. EBC was grey, with no colourful tents because it wasn't the season yet, or i think all summit trips in 2014 have been cancelled because of the avalanche that killed many sherpas. just some prayer flags to mark the spot.

the climb up kalapathar was disappointing due to clouds again; i had no view of the everest range. but i had fun climbing and climbing for 2 hours in the dark with deepak.
